Woods, Finishes and Hardware
Old River Cabinets hand selects the highest quality kiln-dried hardwoods for use when building your custom cabinets. These beautiful solid wood cabinets are each unique and have characteristics that can transform a mundane kitchen into a work of art. The environment in which a tree is grown will affect the grain, coloring of the wood, mineral streaks, and knots. We carefully choose hardwoods that meet strict selection criteria. For example, a 5-8% moisture content will ensure your cabinet will be stable in most environments (though we recommend monitoring your humidity levels to maintain them at 40-50% during installation). To get a lifetime of enjoyment from your custom cabinets, carefully maintain proper humidity levels of 40-50% and shrinking, expanding, and warping should be minimal.
Old River Cabinets' designers are eager to help you select your "signature" cabinetry and finish style to maximize the beauty of the natural variations found in each hardwood. The following information on each wood type may be helpful to ease your selection process. Keep in mind that any finish can be applied to any wood, our suggestions are simply classically pleasing combinations that many customers have selected for their homes. Old River Cabinets offers the widest array of standard finishes and colors available on the market and, of course, offers our master finishing specialists to assist you with blending your own custom finish color.
